Every spring and autumn THE GROVE bustles with beauty and destination brides from all over the globe flock to its rolling foregrounds. The 5 Star macadamia plantation, home to a stunning six bedroom house, sits within the luscious Byron Bay hinterland. Rustic yet contemporary, the grounds are complete with a pool, spa, sunken fire pit (and a stone fireplace), covered deck, kitchen, wet bar and designer his and her bathrooms — all the things you need to say “I Do” in style. Couples get hitched here atop green hills and scenic dams, and then head over to the arena size grass that’s big enough to boost tipis and marquees or whatever else your heart might desire.
Besides its obvious visual appeal (this place is actually a wonderland), we also love the simplicity that THE GROVE offers — a vibe that allows brides the creative freedom to do their own thing with the atmosphere. Each wedding package includes a three-day stay, so you can really have a lovely, chilled experience.
We had a few words with Ky Drury, whose family is behind the efforts that make this ridiculously amazing venue possible. If you’re interested in learning more, do so quickly
! It goes without saying this place books up fast.
THE GROVE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HISTORY.
A working macadamia farm for over 20 years, we bought the land five years ago to become farmers — not a clue what it entailed! We have learnt that farming is very fickle and we needed to utilize the property better in order to provide for a family of six. We’ve been working on building a beautiful home for the past three years (still going) that is capable of hosting events and weddings. We evolved organically by watching and seeing what was going on around us. When we first got here, we were not even remotely thinking about what has evolved... Being a builder and a designer, we decided to pool our talents and create a home that we can share with a select few each year.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE LOCATION IN THREE WORDS?
Luxe. Coastal. Vibe.
WHAT TYPE OF BRIDE WOULD FALL IN LOVE WITH THE GROVE?
We have hosted all types of themes, from Bohemian, French, Country to Palm Springs, Classic and Bahamas. We’ve created a very fresh pallet that makes it easy for any bride to put her own spin on it.
WHAT IS ONE DECORATING SCHEME YOU'VE EXPERIENCED ON YOUR GROUNDS THAT FIT WELL AND THAT YOU FOUND CREATIVE AND ABSOLUTELY LOVED?
I love a tropical island theme here! It really marries in with the experience Byron Bay leaves with holidaymakers. Time is slower in Byron, everyone leaves feeling refreshed and invigorated.
WHAT'S ONE WEDDING TREND YOU'RE LOVING AT THE MOMENT? WHAT'S ONE WEDDING TREND YOU WISH WOULD FADE AWAY?
I love the Palm Springs theme, its fun and quirky. With the addition of an airstream caravan serving cocktails, it is a stand out. I am not a fan of Shabby Chic so much... I think it has been done to bits.
