Nicole & Uwe

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met on an online dating site in 2017. Uwe was my first and only date. He was quite flirtatious about my blue eyes and from there we started writing emails to each other. About three months down the track, Uwe drove his Corvette up to Toowoomba to meet me at Picnic Point for a morning coffee, which was followed by a bush walk, then we decided to have lunch, and then a hinterland drive, and then another coffee, and five hours later it was obvious we were pretty into each other. We would catch up most weekends and the rest is history.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER AND HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

Five years.

We had just bought a piece of land in Brisbane and were about to embark on our very first ‘owner build’ adventure together. Uwe was keen to buy a tractor. One day he planned a hinterland road trip to look at some tractors. Little did I know he was taking me the back road to Byron Bay. After looking at some tractors we stopped at a beautiful little look out where the original NSW/QLD border sign is. He made sure I was standing in NSW (my favourite place in the world) and he was standing in QLD (Uwe’s favourite place in the world). He got down on one knee, said the most beautiful things and proposed to me. We then went to Byron where we spent the day doing all our favourite things. We even ran into Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa at the local yoghurt shop. When we were inside Uwe said “okay my love, I have to admit I did not organise Chris Hemsworth to be here today”. It was the most magical day.

WHAT IS THE MOST AMAZING THING ABOUT YOUR MAN?

I love Uwe’s kind heart, his smile, and his caring nature. I love his determination and drive in everything he does. I love that he sees the joy in everything. Fun comes easily for him. He is an amazing father and it fills my heart when I watch him guide and teach our children.

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING IN ONE WORD:

Magical

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM YOUR WEDDING?

We have so many beautiful memories from our special day – from the moment we saw each other for the first time to all the in-between moments we shared together (just the two of us), to seeing all our favourite people (minus a few) sitting under the beautiful ancient Fig Tree – waiting to celebrate with us! We loved spending this day with them.

WHERE WAS YOUR WEDDING LOCATED? WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION?

Byron Bay. Fig Tree Restaurant.

Byron Bay is our favourite place to visit. We would often go there when we were dating and it is now where we continue to go with our little family of four. It was a no brainer that we would get married in Byron.

We attended the Byron Bay Wedding Fair in 2017. Fig Tree was the first venue we visited. It was stunningly beautiful. The views from under the old fig tree were breathtaking (hinterland to ocean views all the way to Cape Byron’s lighthouse – three of our favourite places to go when in Byron). On the day, we met some of the staff from Fig Tree who were so lovely. We got a real sense of family. This resinated with Uwe and I. It was very easy for us to choose this special place for our special day.

ANY ADVICE FOR OUR BRIDES-TO-BE?

Enjoy every single moment you have with each other and with your friends and family. The day will go by so quickly.

For all the beautiful brides out there riding the covid-19 wedding wave. Hang in there. Be open to doing things differently. Your special day might not be plan A or plan B or plan C, whether it be small or large – it will be magical because you are marrying your special guy. That is all that matters. Our wedding day was not plan A, plan B or plan C. However, we both look back on the two little weddings we have had (1 x elopement and 1 x small wedding party) and would not change a thing. We can’t wait to head back to Byron with Uwe’s family (who are coming from South Africa & Switzerland) and some of our closest friends to celebrate some more.

WHO CREATED YOUR GORGEOUS GOWN?

Anne and the lovely ladies from Paddington Weddings.

WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR HONEYMOON?

We stayed in Byron as there was a lot of uncertainty around travelling at the time due to covid-19. We will head to Tasmania for our honeymoon when we are able to safely travel.

HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A FOREVER SOLES BRIDE?

Effortless. Angie was so lovely and helpful. My shoes were a perfect fit and unbelievably cute. I defiantly had those happy vibes as I danced the night away – in my dusty pink Sugar Booties. Can’t wait to wear them again for wedding 3.0.
